How Lesotho Arrive
Lesotho opened its qualifying campaign with a 2-1 defeat against Niger on September 25. The Mena took control during the first half through goals from Daniel Sosah and Oumar Sako.
The Likuena managed to respond late in the match. Sera Motebang converted a penalty with five minutes remaining to give his team hope, but Niger held on through the closing stages to secure all three points.
The result leaves Lesotho searching for its first points of the campaign ahead of a much more demanding test against the reigning African champions.
How Morocco Arrive
Morocco made a winning start by defeating Gabon 2-0 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
Noussair Mazraoui opened the scoring in the 36th minute before Soufiane Rahimi added the second in the 84th to secure all three points. The match was also Mohamed Ouahbi’s first competitive game in charge of the senior national team.
The Atlas Lions are playing this opening qualifying window without captain Achraf Hakimi, who is suspended for the first two matches, but they still began their road toward defending the African title with a victory.
Morocco Looks to Stay at the Top of Group A
After Matchday 1, Morocco and Niger each have three points, while Lesotho and Gabon remain without a point.
Group A does not contain any of the three automatically qualified AFCON 2027 host nations, meaning the teams finishing first and second after six matchdays will qualify directly for the finals in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
For Lesotho, collecting a positive result would prevent an 0-2 start to the group stage. Morocco, meanwhile, has the opportunity to move to six points from six and strengthen its position before qualifying resumes in the next international window.
