Zimbabwe and DR Congo enter Matchday 2 of Group E in the 2027 AFCON Qualifiers with three points each after opening their campaigns with victories.

How Zimbabwe Arrive
The Warriors produced one of the most dramatic comebacks of the opening matchday. Ramón Catalá’s side trailed Sierra Leone 2-0 at halftime after goals from Alie Conteh and Sallieu Tarawallie, but completely changed the game after the break.
Marshall Munetsi pulled one back in the 72nd minute before Tawanda Chirewa equalized four minutes later. Munetsi then scored again in the 88th minute to complete a remarkable 3-2 victory.
The result gave Zimbabwe three points from its opening qualifier before returning to Harare for its first home match of the campaign.
How DR Congo Arrive
DR Congo also made a winning start, defeating Equatorial Guinea 2-0 in Kinshasa.
The Leopards needed only four minutes to take the lead, with Chancel Mbemba heading home an Arthur Masuaku corner. Equatorial Guinea attempted to respond as the match progressed, but DR Congo protected its advantage before Yoane Wissa added the second goal in the 72nd minute.
That victory means DR Congo also enters Matchday 2 with three points and an opportunity to strengthen its position in the race for qualification.
A Battle at the Top of Group E
Zimbabwe and DR Congo are the two teams that won their opening matches, making the meeting in Harare an early battle between the Group E leaders.
The section also includes Equatorial Guinea and Sierra Leone, who will meet on the same day. Because Group E does not contain any of the three automatically qualified host nations, the top two teams after six matchdays will qualify directly for AFCON 2027.
