Comoros opened its qualifying campaign with a 3-1 defeat against Cameroon in Garoua. The Indomitable Lions took the lead in the 39th minute and doubled their advantage shortly after halftime.

Warmed Omari pulled one back for Comoros in the 51st minute, briefly bringing his team back into the contest, but Danny Namaso scored in the 81st to secure the 3-1 result.

The defeat left Comoros without a point after Matchday 1 and increases the importance of its first home game of the qualifying campaign.

Namibia, meanwhile, opened with a 1-0 victory over the Republic of the Congo in Gaborone, Botswana.

Namibia Looks to Protect Its Early Position in Group G

After the opening round, Namibia and Cameroon started Group G with three points, while Comoros and the Republic of the Congo were left without a point.

None of the three automatically qualified AFCON 2027 host nations compete in this section, meaning the teams finishing first and second after six matchdays will qualify directly for the finals in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

For Comoros, collecting points at home would provide an immediate response to its opening defeat. Namibia, meanwhile, has an opportunity to begin the campaign with consecutive positive results and strengthen its position before qualifying resumes in November.
