Ghana will look to recover from its opening defeat against Côte d’Ivoire, while The Gambia enters Matchday 2 of Group C with three points after defeating Somalia.
Ghana will host The Gambia on Tuesday, September 29, on Matchday 2 of Group C in the 2027 AFCON Qualifiers. The match will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium in Accra, with kickoff scheduled for 12:00 PM ET / 9:00 AM PT. How Ghana Arrive
Ghana opened its qualifying campaign with a 2-0 defeat against Côte d’Ivoire at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké.
The Elephants broke the deadlock in the 44th minute through Malick Yalcouyé, who gave the hosts the lead shortly before halftime.
Yalcouyé was involved again after the break when he won a penalty, allowing Franck Kessié to convert from the spot in the 58th minute and make it 2-0.
The result left Carlos Queiroz’s side without a point after Matchday 1. The Black Stars now return to Accra for their first home game of the qualifying campaign.
How The Gambia Arrive
The Gambia, meanwhile, made a winning start to Group C with a 2-1 victory over Somalia.
Ebrima Colley opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 18th minute. Somalia remained in the contest and eventually equalized through Bilal Njie in the 72nd minute.
The Scorpions responded 11 minutes later. Muhammed Badamosi, who had been introduced at halftime, scored from Suleiman Camara’s pass in the 83rd minute to secure all three points.
An Important Early Match in Group C
After Matchday 1, Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia have three points, while Ghana and Somalia remain without a point.
Group C does not include any of the three automatically qualified AFCON 2027 co-hosts, meaning the teams finishing first and second after six matchdays will qualify directly for the finals in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
For Ghana, Tuesday’s match is an opportunity to collect its first points in front of its home supporters. The Gambia, meanwhile, will look to build on its opening victory and maintain its perfect start to the campaign.
