Atlético Shuts the Door on Julián Álvarez: No to Barcelona
It is no secret that FC Barcelona has set its sights on Argentina’s World Cup champion, Julián Álvarez. The Catalan club has explored different options to try to sign “La Araña,” but everything indicates that the deal will not be possible.
The Blaugrana side is looking to strengthen its attack ahead of next summer, amid the potential departure of Robert Lewandowski and the need to bring in a young striker who fits into Hansi Flick’s system.
Among the options considered by Barcelona is the possibility of including players in the deal — such as Ferran Torres — along with a financial compensation. However, Atlético de Madrid is not willing to negotiate under those terms.
Atlético de Madrid’s Firm Stance
From the red-and-white club, the message has been clear: no player swaps will be accepted. If Barcelona wants Julián Álvarez, they will have to pay the full transfer fee, a figure that is around €100 million. An amount that, as things stand, the Catalan side cannot afford, effectively ruling out the operation.
In this context, during the pre-match lunch ahead of the league clash between both teams, Atlético de Madrid president Enrique Cerezo was blunt in shutting down any speculation: Julián is an Atlético player and has a long-term contract.

The Argentine forward is tied to the club until 2030 and has established himself as the team’s main attacking reference. In addition, the departure of Antoine Griezmann to MLS further complicates any sale scenario, as Atlético de Madrid does not want to weaken its attack or strengthen a direct rival.
Everything points to Julián Álvarez not wearing a Barcelona shirt. The firm stance of Atlético de Madrid, combined with the high transfer fee, makes the deal, for now, unfeasible.
