Barcelona have alternatives to Alvarez, insists Laporta
Barcelona have been very open in their pursuit of Julian Alvarez, but they have lined up other options if a deal cannot be reached.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has insisted the club have alternative options to Julian Alvarez in this transfer window if they cannot agree a deal with Atletico Madrid.
Alvarez has been open about his desire to leave Atleti this summer, having scored 49 goals in 106 games for Los Colchoneros.
His 66 direct goal involvements are more than any other player since his arrival at the club, catching the eye of Barca, who have already submitted a bid for the striker.
Real Madrid revealed they saw a €150m bid rejected by Atleti for Alvarez, while Arsenal are also said to be interested in the 26-year-old.
Barca have already signed Anthony Gordon this summer, while Karim Adeyemi is close to completing a move to the Camp Nou, and Laporta revealed they will not keep going for Alvarez until the window closes.
"Atletico Madrid already knows we've made a significant offer for Julian. A very significant one," Laporta told Cadena SER.
"If they're willing to accept it, fantastic. However, it won't be an open-ended offer.
"There will come a time when we have to decide whether to maintain the offer or not, and it will depend on how these next two weeks of July unfold. We've approached this with institutional respect.
"The player has spoken out, and the matter is still open. We'll see what Atletico says. It's very clear that the player wants a change of scenery.
"We'll see how the Julian situation develops; if it's not certain, there are alternatives."
Barca start their LaLiga title defence away to Elche on August 23, while their first home game of the 2026-27 campaign comes against Athletic Club.
