Atlético say they would reject offers worth up to US$234 million for Julián Álvarez
Atlético Madrid have once again ruled out the possibility of selling Julián Álvarez.
Atlético Madrid have once again ruled out the possibility of selling Julián Álvarez.
Club CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín said the club not only rejected a €100 million offer (approximately US$117 million), but would also turn down bids of €150 million or €200 million (up to US$234 million), making it clear that the Argentine striker is not for sale.
"Our answer is infinite"
Gil Marín was responding to Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who recently said the Catalan club's offer for Álvarez "was not infinite."
Atlético's executive replied with a firm message.
"Our answer is infinite: we don't want to transfer him. We didn't accept €100 million, and we won't accept €150 million or €200 million either."
He also reiterated that Álvarez remains a key part of Atlético's project.
"I have no doubt that Atlético is the best place in the world for Julián, and Julián is the perfect striker for Atlético Madrid."
Barcelona and Real Madrid have already been turned away
Atlético confirmed that it has already rejected approaches from both Barcelona and Real Madrid during the current transfer window.
Álvarez, who is set to play in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final against Spain, remains under contract with Atlético until June 30, 2030, and has a €500 million release clause.
"Julián has been poorly advised"
Gil Marín also addressed Álvarez's previous comments expressing his desire to leave the club.
The Atlético executive suggested those statements were influenced by the player's advisers.
"Julián has been poorly advised since the end of the season."
Even so, he insisted the club has complete confidence in the Argentine forward.
"We have no doubts about his character or his professionalism."
Atlético expect him to stay
Despite criticism from some supporters following Álvarez's public comments, Gil Marín remains convinced the striker will continue at Atlético.
"Every Atlético fan's dream, and mine as well, is to see Julián scoring goals and winning titles for Atlético Madrid. I believe that's exactly what will happen."
