Is He Staying? Vinícius Jr. Clarifies His Future
Vinícius Jr. distanced himself from rumors suggesting the biggest offer in football history to play in Saudi Arabia, and he made it clear that his focus is on Real Madrid, a team he confessed he has "always" dreamed of playing for and where he wants to stay "for a much longer time."
"I always dreamed of playing for Real Madrid, so I appreciate every moment as if it were the last. Everyone wants to win for the best team on the planet and to be able to play with the best, score so many goals in so many finals, and contribute so much. I'm only 24 years old, and I want to keep going for a long time and make history at this great club. Not everyone gets that opportunity, so I enjoy every moment with this jersey," he told CNN.
He also expressed his ambition to follow in the footsteps of Real Madrid players like Luka Modric, Dani Carvajal, Nacho Fernández, and Toni Kroos, who have won six Champions League titles.
"I always play to be among the best, and with each passing day at Real Madrid, I feel more confident. I’ve already won two Champions Leagues, and I play alongside others who have won six, who motivate us every day to push beyond our limits. With the team we have now, anything is possible. Winning two Champions Leagues in three years is tough; staying at the highest level is even more difficult. I want to keep going for a long time and win as many as Carvajal, Modric, Nacho, and Toni Kroos, who have won six."
Vinícius is already thinking about "winning all the titles" possible in the current season, in which Real Madrid has assembled a star-studded squad.
"We might have one of the best teams of the next decade," he confessed. "Now we have to prove on the field that we can perform in every match we play to get closer to the titles."
Among the seven titles that the Madrid team is competing for this season, the Brazilian highlighted the 'Champions League' above the rest. "First, there’s the Champions League, which is the toughest competition, followed by LaLiga and then the Copa."
"Each one carries its own pressure. The weight of the Champions League is because it’s where Real Madrid always wants to win. Not just the players, but the fans also demand that we win the competition, but our goal now is to try to win everything we set out to achieve and finally secure the treble."
