Manchester City and Guardiola seal 4 signings in a week to go all in for the 2025 Club World Cup
Manchester City have made a statement ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup with four major signings already confirmed. The Sky Blues are clearly looking to refresh the squad, raise their competitive level, and go all out for the title at the tournament kicking off on June 14 in the United States. To make that happen, the club has spent over $130 million on key reinforcements from across Europe.
The standout move is the signing of Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, 26, from AC Milan for $55 million. Named the best midfielder in Serie A last season, Reijnders brings energy and goal threat to a midfield now missing Kevin De Bruyne, who's set to join Napoli on a free, and Mateo Kovačić, ruled out through injury. The Dutchman signed a five-year deal and will be available for the opener against Wydad Casablanca on June 18.
Youth, talent and depth across the board
Adding more flair to the midfield is 21-year-old Frenchman Rayan Cherki, who arrives from Olympique Lyon in a $40 million deal. After notching 12 goals and 20 assists last season, he’s considered one of Europe’s top young talents and will look to shine under Pep Guardiola.
At the back, City have brought in Algerian left-back Rayan Aït-Nouri, 24, from Wolverhampton Wanderers for $37 million. With solid Premier League experience since 2021 and a contract running until 2030, Aït-Nouri fills a position that was a concern last season and is expected to start in the Club World Cup.
The final addition is veteran English goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, 33, who joins on a free from Chelsea. While he'll mainly play a backup role behind Ederson and Stefan Ortega, his experience could be important with a busy schedule ahead.
With these new signings, Manchester City have now made seven additions in 2025, including the $200 million spent in January on Vitor Reis, Abbosbek Fayzullaev "Khusanov", and Nico González. Sporting director Hugo Viana, backed by club president Khaldoon Al Mubarak, has made it clear: the immediate goal is to win the Club World Cup and lay the foundation for a new winning era.
