Marcelo Bielsa Criticizes CONMEBOL
Marcelo Bielsa, the head coach of Uruguay, has openly criticized CONMEBOL, calling them “liars” and lamenting that “it’s all a disgrace” during a press conference ahead of the third-place match against Canada in the Copa América.
Bielsa demanded an apology from the organization for failing to protect the families of Uruguayan footballers in the stadium after their semifinal loss to Colombia. He also accused CONMEBOL of “explicitly lying” about the state of the playing and training fields.
“They said the training fields are perfect, the pitches are perfect, and there’s evidence that these are lies. It’s a plague of liars,” Bielsa stated.
Bielsa further expressed his dismay, saying “it’s all a disgrace,” and criticized CONMEBOL for speaking of the “aesthetic perception” of the fields. He noted that while the United States, despite having its responsibilities, did not lie to the teams.
“I know they haven’t lied. In a country capable of the ‘FIFA Gate,’ it turns out they’ve lied now,” he affirmed.
