French midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni opened the scoring for Real Madrid against Benfica in the Champions League and later compared his strike to that of Toni Kroos.

The goal helped guide Álvaro Arbeloa’s side toward qualification for the Round of 16.

How was Tchouaméni’s goal against Benfica?

In the 15th minute, Tchouaméni arrived at the edge of the box and struck the ball after a diagonal move from Federico Valverde. His shot was perfectly placed, hitting close to the post.

After the match, the French midfielder referenced Kroos when speaking about the finish:

“My goal was very Toni Kroos-like.”

He also added:

“In the warm-up I scored many goals and we said today was my day. I’m very happy to help the team with a goal. The coach pushes me a little to help me score. I have to keep going like this.”

 Tchouaméni hopes for Mbappé’s return

The midfielder also spoke about the absence of Kylian Mbappé, who did not feature in the match.

“If Kylian didn’t play today it’s because he couldn’t. He’s a key player for us and we hope he comes back very soon,” he said after the 2-1 victory at the Santiago Bernabéu.
