(VIDEO) All the Goals From Newcastle vs Barcelona in UEFA Champions League
FC Barcelona heads into this European clash in excellent form after securing four consecutive wins across all competitions. The Catalan side has looked solid both offensively and defensively, scoring eleven goals while conceding only once during that stretch.
Despite the disappointment of being eliminated by Atlético de Madrid in the Copa del Rey semifinals, Hansi Flick’s team has maintained a high level of performance. Over the weekend, Barcelona earned a hard-fought victory at San Mamés against Athletic Club, thanks to a brilliant goal from Lamine Yamal, who is currently enjoying one of the best spells of his season.
Barcelona Looks to Control the Tempo
Coach Hansi Flick is expected to restore several key players to the starting lineup for the clash in England. Pedri, Raphinha, and Fermín López are all candidates to return to the XI, while Marc Bernal has strengthened his position as an option in midfield.
However, Barcelona will still have to cope with several absences. Defenders Jules Koundé, Alejandro Balde, and Andreas Christensen will not be available, while midfielders Frenkie de Jong and Gavi are also ruled out.
As a result, Pau Cubarsí and Eric García are likely to start in central defense. João Cancelo and Gerard Martín appear to be the main options to complete the back line, although Ronald Araújo could also feature if Flick opts for additional physical presence.
Barcelona’s strategy will likely revolve around controlling possession, minimizing turnovers in dangerous areas, and maintaining defensive discipline against a team that thrives in transition.
Newcastle Relies on Gordon’s Scoring Form
Newcastle United, managed by Eddie Howe, enters the tie during an inconsistent domestic campaign. In the Premier League, the club currently sits in 12th place with 39 points, well outside the European qualification spots.
However, the English side has been more convincing in the Champions League. In the previous round, Newcastle eliminated Qarabag with authority, practically deciding the tie with a 6–1 win in the first leg, where Anthony Gordon scored four goals.
The English winger remains Newcastle’s primary attacking threat and is among the top scorers in the competition.
