Flick Not Satisfied Despite Barcelona’s Champions League Rout

Barcelona began its European campaign with a dominant performance against Feyenoord at the Spotify Camp Nou, but the German coach made it clear after the match that there is still plenty of room for improvement.

The result could hardly have been better. A brace from Raphinha, goals from Karim Adeyemi, Lamine Yamal and Gabriel Jesus, three points and an early warning to the rest of Europe’s biggest clubs.

But Flick wants more.

Barcelona Opens the Champions League With a Statement

The Catalan side needed just three minutes to start the rout.

Raphinha opened the scoring with a brilliant individual effort and later struck again to complete his brace. Adeyemi also made his mark in his first European appearance wearing the Barcelona shirt, while Lamine Yamal scored the fourth with a free kick.

The match also produced a special night for Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian striker came off the bench and needed only a few minutes to score his first goal as a Barcelona player. A delivery from Lamine ended with a slight touch from the forward to complete the 5-1 victory.

It was an almost perfect attacking performance to begin the league phase of the 2026-27 Champions League.

Flick Celebrates but Demands More

The emphatic victory did not change the coach’s message.

Flick praised the atmosphere inside the dressing room, the intensity with which his squad works and the quality the team possesses when controlling the ball. He also expressed his satisfaction with the performances of Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.

However, the most important message came when he discussed what is still missing.

“We can improve, and we have to,” the coach said after the match, insisting that the team must maintain the same intensity and quality in training.

For Flick, winning 5-1 does not mean the job is finished. On the contrary, the German wants to use matches like this to identify details that could become problems when the team faces stronger opposition.

That level of demand has become one of the defining characteristics of his time at Barcelona.

Lamine Yamal Responds as Captain

One of the defining images of the night was Lamine Yamal taking over the captain’s armband following Raphinha’s departure from the pitch.

The young Spaniard responded immediately.

Lamine scored from a free kick to make it 4-0 and later played a part in the fifth goal with the delivery that Gabriel Jesus eventually turned into the net.

Flick particularly praised the forward’s performance and the way he responded after taking on even greater responsibility within the team.

The performance also carried special significance in Europe. Before the match, UEFA noted that Lamine was just two goals away from matching Kylian Mbappé’s record of 13 Champions League goals before turning 21.

Now he is only one away.

Barcelona began its European adventure with five goals, three points and a performance that will inevitably raise expectations around the team.

For Flick, however, that is still not enough.

The victory was spectacular. The coach’s message was even clearer: this Barcelona team can play even better.
