Sam Allardyce will finalise terms on a deal to become Everton manager on Wednesday, the Premier League club have confirmed.
Allardyce returns to club management six months after resigning from Crystal Palace, having saved the London side from relegation.
The former Newcastle United, Bolton Wanderers and England manager has famously never been relegated from the Premier League, having taken over mid-season to keep Sunderland and Palace in the top division the past two campaigns.
Having previously shown interest in acquiring the services of Watford manager Marco Silva and then Ireland boss Martin O'Neill, Everton have now announced that Allardyce will take over from interim manager David Unsworth, who will lead the Goodison Park outfit for the last time tonight against West Ham.
Having spent heavy to bring in reinforcements over the summer, Everton have struggled to click this season; the Toffees currently sit 17th in the Premier League, two points above the drop zone, and have already been dumped out of the Europa League, following a disastrous showing in the group stage.
While the return of Wayne Rooney cost the club nothing, the additions of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Sandro Ramirez, Jordan Pickford, Ashley Williams, Michael Keane and Davy Klaassen set them back in the region of $200 million. However, the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United has exposed the side's lack of goalscoring talent.
The sacking of Ronald Koeman in October has not produced the desired effect, with Everton recording one win, one draw and five defeats in all competitions since Unsworth took over.
Allardyce's reign will begin on Saturday when Everton host Huddersfield Town.
