Pogoń Szczecin Claims First Win of the Polish Ekstraklasa's 100th Season

Óscar García's side closed out Matchday 2 in style with an impressive road win over Cracovia.

Pogoń Szczecin celebrated the 100th season of the Polish Ekstraklasa with its first victory of the campaign, defeating Cracovia 2-0 on the road on Monday to close out Matchday 2.

Goals from Leo Borges (46') and Paul Mukairu (90+4') secured all three points for Óscar García's side at the Marshal Józef Piłsudski Stadium in Kraków.

The result was an important response for Pogoń after suffering a heartbreaking home defeat to Legia Warsaw in its season opener.

The visitors produced a disciplined defensive performance and capitalized on their chances in the second half to earn their first points and goals of the new Ekstraklasa season.

Goalkeeper Valentin Cojocaru was the standout performer, delivering a series of crucial saves to preserve a clean sheet and lay the foundation for Pogoń Szczecin's 2-0 victory.

Cojocaru Shines Before Leo Borges Breaks the Deadlock

The match was far more competitive than the final score suggested.

Both teams created dangerous opportunities in the opening half, but Cojocaru stole the spotlight with several outstanding saves, preventing Cracovia from taking the lead before halftime.

The breakthrough came immediately after the restart.

In the 46th minute, Leo Borges unleashed a powerful strike from outside the penalty area that found the back of the net to put Pogoń Szczecin ahead 1-0.

Cracovia pushed for an equalizer and even found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

As the home side increased the pressure, Cojocaru once again came up with a decisive save to protect his team's advantage.

Mukairu Seals the Victory as Cracovia's Winless Run Continues

In stoppage time, Pogoń Szczecin took advantage of the space left by Cracovia.

Following a long clearance from Cojocaru, the ball reached Paul Mukairu, who drove into the box, rounded the goalkeeper, and calmly finished to make it 2-0 in the 90+4th minute.

The victory gives Pogoń Szczecin its first three points of the season, providing a major boost after opening the campaign with a defeat.

Meanwhile, Cracovia remains without a win under head coach Bartosz Grzelak, who has now recorded six draws and one loss in his first seven matches in charge.

With the result, Pogoń Szczecin climbs to sixth place with three points, while Cracovia drops to 15th with one point after drawing its season opener against Lech Poznań.
