Lech Poznań looks to keep its strong run going in the Ekstraklasa

Lech Poznań heads into its next match determined to remain at the top of Polish football. Niels Frederiksen's side has found excellent form in the league and is coming off an important 2-1 victory over Legia Warsaw, a result that sent them to the top of the standings with 28 points and a game in hand.

Things seemed to be going perfectly for the Poznań side, which had been scoring freely and had won four consecutive league matches. However, an unexpected setback changed the mood around the team just before hosting Wisła Kraków.

An unexpected cup exit and an injury concern for the league leaders

In midweek, Lech suffered a difficult-to-explain setback, crashing out of the Polish Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Siarka Tarnobrzeg, a team from a lower division. Frederiksen made several changes to his lineup, but the result still came as a major surprise and left the hosts with plenty to prove.

To make matters worse, the coach will also be without Mikael Ishak, the team's captain and attacking reference point. The striker suffered a muscle injury against Legia and could be sidelined for two to three weeks. Yannick Agnero, who scored in that victory, could take his place. Another key player will be Pablo Rodríguez, who has recorded six goals and six assists this season.

Wisła Kraków looks to capitalize and end its poor away run

Wisła Kraków travels to Poznań after a 2-1 victory over Raków Częstochowa, with goals from Julius Ertlthaler and Kacper Duda. The team, managed by Mariusz Jop, sits fifth in the standings with 21 points and remains within reach of the league's top positions.

Wisła's biggest problem has come on the road: they are still without an away win in this Ekstraklasa campaign, having recorded three draws and three defeats in six matches. Even so, they arrive unbeaten in their last two games and on the back of six consecutive home victories, a combination that could make things difficult for the league leaders. Ángel Rodado, who has scored four goals in the competition, will be one to watch.

Lech and Wisła prepare for a special reunion

This matchup also brings back a rivalry that has been absent from Poland's top division for some time. The last time the two clubs met in the Ekstraklasa was on March 13, 2022, when they played out a 1-1 draw. Since then, Wisła had to endure relegation and fight its way back to the top flight.

Lech needs to prove that its recent setback was just a temporary stumble, while Wisła has an opportunity to finally claim the away victory that has eluded them all season. The league leaders cannot afford another surprise.
