Lewandowski Trains With Mask and Eyes Return for Barcelona
Robert Lewandowski returned to training with FC Barcelona wearing a protective mask after suffering a facial fracture, raising the possibility that he could feature against Athletic Club this weekend.
Robert Lewandowski was the standout presence in Wednesday’s training session for FC Barcelona at the club’s training complex. The Polish striker returned to the pitch wearing a protective mask following the facial injury he suffered last week, a development that has boosted optimism about his potential return to competition.
The forward missed the team’s most recent match against Atlético de Madrid after taking a heavy blow during the previous league game against Villarreal CF. Medical examinations later confirmed that Lewandowski had suffered a bone fracture on the inner side of the left eye socket. The injury forced the prolific scorer to sit out the midweek fixture while beginning his recovery process.
However, only a few days after the diagnosis, Lewandowski was already back on the training field working alongside his teammates, although with special facial protection. The mask is designed to protect the affected area and allow the striker to train with minimal risk while the fracture continues to heal.
Barcelona’s coaching staff, led by Hansi Flick, will continue to monitor the player’s progress in the coming days before making a final decision regarding his availability for Saturday’s clash against Athletic Club. Lewandowski remains a key attacking figure for the Catalan side, making his recovery particularly important for the team.
Several other first-team players also trained on the pitch during the session, while some teammates remained in the gym completing individualized recovery programs. Lewandowski is not the only Barcelona player to wear a protective mask this season. Defender Eric García also used similar protection for several months after suffering a nasal fracture in late 2025.
