Although Le Classique between Marseille and PSG takes place at the start of the Ligue 1 season, the stakes are already sky-high ahead of a massive match that will be live on beIN SPORTS on Sunday.
Both teams need a victory and a boost in one of Europe's biggest rivalry matches, but one definitely has a greater need than the other.
Marseille Under Pressure Ahead Of Le Classique
Marseille is hosting PSG at the Velodrome. The team led by USMNT star Timothy Weah is under extreme pressure from impatient fans after losing three straight games in Ligue 1, including a local rivalry match against Monaco.
That pressure was worsened on Thursday with a damaging 4-1 loss at Besiktas in the Europa League.
"These aren’t the best moments of my career, that is for sure," admitted Marseille coach Bruno Genesio after the defeat to the Turkish side.
The French manager may be feeling that the visit of PSG could not come at a worse time for his side.
PSG Looks To Turn Its Ligue 1 Form Around
PSG is also looking for a boost, having picked up just a single victory from four games in the league this season, a record that coach Luis Enrique will be desperate to improve.
The Spanish manager will be relying on striker Ferran Torres to add to his three Ligue 1 goals this season and continue his flying start to his PSG career.
The World Cup winner has already become a fan favorite and could cement that status by leading the team to a win at the Velodrome.
