How Much Revenue Has Real Madrid Generated From Its Academy?
While Real Madrid remain a major player in the transfer market, the Spanish giants have also made a fortune by moving on their young academy talents.
Real Madrid not only continues to produce talent through its youth academy, but has also turned the development of young players into a major source of revenue.
This summer, the Merengues have generated around $233 million from the departures of 12 players developed in their academy, a figure that highlights the enormous financial value of their investment in young talent.
The strategy goes beyond competing for major signings. Real Madrid are also capitalizing on their youth academy, following a model also used by clubs in Portugal, the Netherlands, England and Germany.

12 Sales That Have Generated a Fortune for Real Madrid
These deals reflect a strategy that goes beyond a traditional transfer. In several cases, Madrid have retained percentages of the players' economic rights or included mechanisms that allow the club to benefit from future sales. Gonzalo García, for example, joined Fulham in a deal worth around $45 million, while Real Madrid retained a stake in the player.

| Mario Martín | Getafe | $4.1 million for 50% |
| Fran García | Real Betis | $4.7 million plus add-ons |
| Víctor Valdepeñas | Fiorentina | $9.4 million for 50% |

| Álex Jiménez | Fiorentina | $15.2 million |
| Mario Gila | AC Milan | $17.6 million |

Nico Paz and Gonzalo García: Real Madrid’s Biggest Deals
Two transfers stand out in particular. Nico Paz represents one of the most significant deals, with the transfer valued at €60 million, or around $70.2 million, while Real Madrid retain a unilateral buyback option for the 2027-28 season.
Gonzalo García, meanwhile, was transferred to Fulham for a fee that different sources place between €40 million and €45 million, depending on how the deal and the retained rights are accounted for.
Real Madrid’s Academy Has Become a Strategic Asset
The numbers tell a compelling story: the revenue generated by these transfers allows Real Madrid to finance a significant portion of their activity in the transfer market. El País estimates that the club have spent around $263 million on signings this summer, with approximately 90% of that spending covered by sales of players developed through their youth system.
The formula is clear: develop talent, increase its value and generate revenue without completely giving up control of the player’s future. Through retained percentages, buyback clauses and rights to future transfers, Real Madrid have turned their academy into a recurring source of multimillion-dollar revenue.
And this summer alone, the figure has already reached around $233 million.
