Atlético Madrid’s Condition to Lower Julián Álvarez’s Release Clause

  • Julián Álvarez’s future is back in the spotlight just a few weeks after the transfer window closed.

Following a summer in which his potential departure created weeks of tension, Atlético Madrid could be willing to change its stance ahead of 2027, although everything would depend on the Argentine forward’s performances this season.

According to Pipi Estrada on El Chiringuito, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín has reportedly promised Julián Álvarez that the club will lower his release clause if he reaches 20 goals during the 2026-27 campaign.

For now, there is no indication of how much the clause would be reduced, and the club has not officially confirmed the reported agreement.

20 Goals Could Change Julián Álvarez’s Future

The target is certainly familiar territory for the striker.

Julián Álvarez finished last season with 20 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions, along with nine assists. Repeating that production could create a very different scenario when next summer’s transfer window arrives.

The report from El Chiringuito comes after a complicated few months surrounding the Argentine. During the most recent transfer window, Barcelona showed interest in signing him, while Atlético Madrid maintained a firm stance regarding his potential departure.

The forward is under contract with the Spanish club through 2030 and has a release clause specifically designed to make any attempt to sign him extremely difficult.

Now, reaching 20 goals again could change those conditions.

The Liverpool Match May Have Helped Ease Tensions

According to Pipi Estrada, one of the key moments in improving the relationship between the two sides may have come after the match against Liverpool in the Champions League.

Julián Álvarez completed his first full match of the season at Anfield and was directly involved in Marcos Llorente’s goal, while also showing an attitude that reportedly left a positive impression inside the club.

That performance may have helped ease some of the tension that had built up during the summer.

Barcelona continues to be linked with the World Cup winner, and Deco recently acknowledged that the Catalan club attempted to sign him during the last transfer window. However, he also clarified that Barcelona never asked the player to publicly push for a move away from Atlético Madrid.

For now, Julián Álvarez remains an Atlético Madrid player, and there is no agreement in place for his departure.

But if the information reported by El Chiringuito ultimately materializes, there is one number that could reopen the door next summer.

20 goals.

The same total he reached last season, but one that could now carry much more than sporting significance.
