Tebas: "Barcelona won't become Ajax"
Javier Tebas, President of LaLiga, denied that Barcelona will become a new Ajax Amsterdam, ending up as a team that produces great players but can't retain them, and reiterated that the Blaugrana will overcome this situation.
During his participation in the Financial Times Summit, a summit in London focused on football finances, the Spanish leader dismissed the idea of Barcelona becoming a second-tier club.
"That won't happen; Barcelona will overcome the situation it's in. They have options to consider when their leaders decide to do so, if they believe they will provide solutions. They have two or three top-level players they can sell. By selling them, they can solve a large part of the problem. With those revenues, they can generate enough money to pay off debts and also pay the players," declared the president.
"The Barcelona is a club that earns almost a billion. It's not going to become that. Certainly. But, like many clubs, it's going through a difficult situation and our financial fair play obliges it to be where it is. As far as I know, it hasn't been eliminated from the Champions League and can still win the Spanish League. There's no need to be so catastrophic about Barcelona," he added.
On the other hand, Tebas stated that Jude Bellingham is currently the best player in the world.
"Bellingham is the best player in the world at the moment, due to his form and playing style. It's a spectacle. It's very important for us to have the best players, even if we don't always have them all, to grow and for everything. If we're honest, he's exceeded everyone's expectations and we hope he continues like this for many years," he said.
