Real Madrid Stumble in Derby While Barcelona Smile
A round of applause for the azulgranas who cut points after the draw between "Blancos" and "Colchoneros" in the local derby.
The goal by Marcos Llorente in the 93rd minute, which brought the tie against Real Madrid in the derby, was a shock at the Santiago Bernabéu and celebrated triumphantly in Barcelona.
With that result (1-1) in the Madrid derby, the Blaugrana closed a perfect round for their interests. All their direct rivals dropped points.
Starting with Girona, the second-placed team, who couldn't get past a 0-0 draw against Real Sociedad and now have two winless games out of the last three.
Then came the Madrid derby between Real Madrid and Atlético. At least one, or both, were going to drop points. And both did. With the agonizing draw sealed by Marcos Llorente's header when everything seemed resolved, Barcelona cut two points off the leaders, Real Madrid, who are now eight points ahead of them, and created a two-point gap from Atlético.
Currently, Real Madrid leads the table with 58 points followed by Girona with 56. Barcelona is third with 50 points and Atlético, in fourth place, is on 48. LaLiga, therefore, remains very much alive.
