Barcelona Athletic's Rafa Márquez Offered Contract Renewal Amidst Coaching Success
The Mexican head coach has convinced Barcelona executives with his performances for a contract extension
Mexican coach of Barcelona Athletic, Rafael Márquez, has been offered a contract renewal to continue leading the Blaugrana subsidiary. Born in Zamora, Michoacán, he has managed to string together six games without defeat and places Barça in playoff positions for promotion.
Márquez, who arrived at the Catalan institution in the summer of 2022, was recently involved in controversy over the promotion of a betting house; however, the plan to renew 'El Kaiser' - endorsed by Joan Laporta - remains on track with a proposal to extend his relationship for one more season.
Among the achievements achieved by Rafa Márquez at the helm of Barça Athletic, last year stands out when he qualified the Blaugranas for the play-offs to ascend to the Second Division; however, he was eliminated by Real Madrid Castilla. Likewise, this season seems to be heading for a second consecutive time in the promotion playoffs.
The former player of the Mexican Atlas has been rumored to be the substitute for Xavi Hernández - who will leave the bench at the end of the season - even going so far as to self-nominate; however, Deco and Joan Laporta have curbed Márquez's aspirations, although the current president of Barcelona has hinted that he could be coaching the first team in LaLiga in the future.
