Ronaldo Nazario Backs Endrick at the 2026 FIFA World Cup
The legendary Brazil World Cup goalscorer praised the Olympique Lyon striker’s talent and urged patience as the young forward awaits his opportunity.
Brazil left more questions than answers in their 2026 FIFA World Cup opener after a 1–1 draw against Morocco, a result that increased the pressure on Carlo Ancelotti’s side and reignited the debate over Endrick’s limited involvement.
The 19-year-old striker did not feature in the match at New Jersey/New York Stadium, a decision that sparked discussion among supporters. However, one of Brazilian football’s most respected voices, Ronaldo Nazário, has come to the defense of both the youngster and the coaching staff.
RONALDO URGES PATIENCE
Speaking on the program Resenha da Copa, Ronaldo said he is convinced Endrick has the talent to compete at the highest level, although he understands that other forwards currently have the edge in Brazil’s attacking hierarchy.
“I’m sure his opportunity will come. He’ll get on the pitch at some point, but right now he’s the third option in attack. There’s Igor Thiago, there’s Matheus Cunha, and then there’s him,” the former Brazil striker said.
Ronaldo also praised the quality of Brazil’s attacking options and expressed confidence that Endrick will be ready when called upon.
“He’s at the same level as Matheus Cunha and Igor Thiago. We’re very well covered in that position.”
THE INJURY THAT CHANGED THE PLAN
The legendary forward also revealed that Endrick’s absence against Morocco was influenced by the circumstances of the match. According to Ronaldo, Bruno Guimarães’ injury forced Ancelotti to rethink the substitutions he had originally planned as Brazil pushed for a winning goal.
“I think he would have played against Morocco if Bruno Guimarães hadn’t been injured. That detail was crucial because Ancelotti was going for the win. But he’s ready.”
HAITI WILL BE A MAJOR TEST
Following the disappointing draw in their opening match, Brazil now need an immediate response against Haiti. For Ronaldo, securing three points is essential, but goal difference could prove just as important in the battle for top spot in the group.
“This match is key to building confidence. Winning is vital, but so is goal difference, which could determine first place. We have to take every opportunity and avoid making things difficult for ourselves.”
For now, Endrick continues to wait for his chance. In a squad overflowing with attacking talent, patience may be required, but few in Brazil doubt that the young forward will have an important role to play before this World Cup is over.
