Erling Haaland has scored more goals than games for Norway, and he's bringing that form to the FIFA World Cup 2026
The striker proved decisive once again, scoring the winner against Ivory Coast to continue his remarkable scoring streak.
Erling Haaland's story with the Norway national team continues to be defined by record-breaking achievements. The striker reached 60 international goals in just 53 appearances after netting the winner in Norway's Round of 32 victory over Ivory Coast at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
A GOALSCORING PHENOMENON
Averaging 1.13 goals per game, the Manchester City forward has firmly established himself as Norway's all-time leading scorer and one of the most prolific international strikers of the modern era.
Haaland now matches Kylian Mbappé's tally, but in nearly half the games, with the France forward reaching the mark after 101 international appearances. The Norwegian striker has also scored 25 goals in his last 13 competitive internationals and boasts 14 FIFA World Cup goals across all levels — five at the senior tournament and nine at the FIFA U-20 World Cup Poland 2019.
Since making his senior debut, Haaland has made scoring look routine. He reached the 50-goal milestone in only 46 caps and needed just seven more appearances to hit 60.
His clinical finishing, imposing physical presence and intelligent movement have made him one of the most complete and decisive forwards in world football.
At just 25 years old, he still has plenty of time to extend a record that could stand for generations.
THE FACE OF NORWAY'S GOLDEN GENERATION
Beyond the individual milestones, Haaland has become the symbol of Norway's football resurgence. After nearly three decades away from the FIFA World Cup, Norway returned to the sport's biggest stage led by its prolific striker and supported by a talented generation that includes Martin Ødegaard.
His 60 international goals represent far more than an extraordinary scoring record. They reflect the influence of a player who has transformed Norway's competitiveness and continues to fuel the nation's belief that this team can make a deep run at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
It also underscored just how much Norway missed him in their 4-1 group-stage loss to France in Boston, with head coach Ståle Solbakken choosing not to play his leading scorer. Haaland's strike against the Elephants took him to five goals at the FIFA World Cup 2026, drawing him level with Argentina's Lionel Messi at the top of the tournament's scoring chart.
