Almirón Says That at Colo Colo "There is Confidence" to Advance to The Libertadores Group Stage
Colo Colo's coach, Argentine Jorge Almirón, stated that his team has moved on from the domestic defeat in the Superclásico against U de Chile to focus on advancing to the group stage of the 2024 Copa Libertadores against Paraguayan side Sportivo Trinidense, and that "there is a lot of confidence within the group".
The Cacique is focused on winning the second leg match at the Monumental stadium for the third round of the continental tournament, after drawing 1-1 in the first leg in Asunción against an opponent "that has performed well at home, causing us quite a bit of trouble, and we hope to overcome it tomorrow at home, improve. There is a lot of confidence within the group," Almirón stated in a press conference.
"We need to recover quickly because we have a match tomorrow. It's very exciting to play at these stages; we want to perform well, and the team will be ready. The mindset is very strong in these cases, and there's a different energy in the Copa Libertadores," the coach commented.
"It will be an important match for Colo Colo to secure advancement. 'Tomorrow, there are many things at stake beyond the tactical and technical aspects, the emotional part; we are at home, and we hope to play well, excite the fans, and advance, which is what we all want,' he said.
'Being at a big club always comes with the obligation to win. It would install us in the Copa Libertadores, which is an objective that was set since I arrived. For us, this match determines many things for the rest of the semester, for planning. It would be very nice for a club like Colo Colo to be in the Copa Libertadores; it would be a big step,' he asserted.
Almirón was cautious about what his opponent, who is at the bottom of the Paraguayan league but drew with Olimpia over the weekend, might propose.
'We will see how they come to play here because they have played differently. It depends on the center forward they have, whether he plays or not. But the important thing is what we do; the players already know what kind of opponent we are going to face, the weapons they have, and where they can hurt us because they have virtues,' he concluded."
