Major Updates and Absences in the Mexican National Team's Call-Up
The return of forward Henry Martín from América and the debut of goalkeeper Alex Padilla from Athletic Bilbao stand out in the Mexican national football team, which will play against New Zealand and Canada in September.
The Mexican Football Federation announced on Wednesday the first call-up by coach Javier Aguirre, who previously led 'El Tri' in the 2002 and 2010 World Cups and will take charge of the team until the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
Aguirre left out goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, midfielder Héctor Herrera, and forwards Hirving Lozano and Raúl Jiménez, veterans who were absent from the team eliminated in the group stage of the last Copa América.
Mexico won 1-0 against Jamaica, lost 1-0 to Venezuela, and drew 0-0 with Ecuador, which led to their elimination from the Copa América and the dismissal of Jaime Lozano, who was replaced by Aguirre.
In his debut with "El Vasco," Mexico will play a friendly against New Zealand on September 7 in Pasadena, California, and then against Canada on the 10th in Arlington, Texas. On September 15, in Guadalajara, El Tri will face the United States.
