Achraf Hakimi’s Celebration After Morocco Won the 2025 AFCON African Cup of Nations
The Moroccan player from PSG was crowned champion of the highest continental competition after the CAF awarded the title to Morocco
A new title
Achraf Hakimi becomes the winner of the African Cup of Nations after CAF stripped Senegal of the title following their withdrawal from the final, sparking controversy and criticism.
The controversy and the awarding of the title
The Paris Saint-Germain star becomes one of the Moroccan and PSG players to have won the highest possible national team competition on the continent. After the controversial final, in which Morocco was awarded a penalty in the final minutes of the match and in extra time, the Senegalese team decided to leave the field of play for several minutes, which brought the final to a halt and sparked controversy and calls for the team to forfeit. Although they resumed play and saved the penalty, ultimately becoming champions in extra time, CAF decided that, due to this behavior, it would revoke their title and award it to Morocco.
The appeal and a page in history
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation filed a complaint and an appeal, which the CAF declared admissible and upheld, thereby awarding the North African national team the final victory over the result of the last match won by Senegal. Achraf Hakimi celebrates, entering the history books of his football federation and those of Paris Saint-Germain.
