For Ana Guevara Prisca Awiti's Silver Medal Wasn't a Surprise
In a recent interview with ESPN, Ana Gabriela Guevara, head of Mexico's National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE), evaluated the performance of the Mexican delegation at the Olympic Games. Guevara highlighted the effort and dedication of the Mexican athletes, emphasizing that everyone competed with the goal of achieving their best and that the global sports level is constantly rising, which demands more effort to achieve prominence.
The official expressed concern over the medals that slipped away but also celebrated the achievements, such as the medal in judo. Guevara was optimistic about Mexico's chances of winning more medals before the Games conclude, noting that there are still upcoming competitions and reaffirming her confidence in the remaining athletes' potential.
Regarding Prisca Awiti's impressive performance, Guevara stated that it was not a surprise to her. "Since her time at CONADE, Prisca showed great determination and strength," she commented. Although Awiti did not win gold, the silver medal was celebrated as a significant achievement for both her and Mexico.
Finally, Guevara addressed the criticism she has faced throughout her career, defending her management and responding to accusations: "There are no solid facts to support the criticisms; they are just opinions," Guevara stated.
