A Brutal Fight Breaks Out in the NBA During the Game Between the Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets
NBA brawl: Pistons defeat Hornets in game marked by ejections and on-court chaos
The Detroit Pistons defeated the Charlotte Hornets 110–104 on Monday, but the final score took a back seat to a massive NBA fight that resulted in the ejections of Moussa Diabaté, Miles Bridges, Jalen Duren, and Isaiah Stewart.
The incident took place in the third quarter during a loose-ball battle between Jalen Duren and Moussa Diabaté. The Detroit big man shoved the French player, who responded with a hard foul and confronted him immediately. The situation escalated when Duren touched Diabaté’s face, causing him to lose control.
What followed was a bench-clearing brawl at the Spectrum Center, one of the most intense moments of the NBA season. Miles Bridges threw a punch at Duren, which prompted Isaiah Stewart to step in from the bench and join the altercation.
Officials decided to eject all four players involved. At the time of the incident, Duren had 15 points, while Bridges had six.
The tension didn’t end there. In the fourth quarter, Hornets head coach Charles Lee was also ejected after angrily protesting an offensive foul called on Grant Williams. Members of the coaching staff had to hold him back while the Spectrum Center crowd erupted against the referees.
With the score 99–88 in favor of Detroit, the atmosphere became hostile, and the Hornets responded with the energy of their home crowd. Charlotte cut the deficit to 104–100 with just over a minute remaining, threatening a dramatic comeback, but the Pistons held on for the win.
The loss ended the Hornets’ best winning streak in 25 years, which stopped at nine consecutive victories, just one shy of the franchise record.
From a basketball standpoint, Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 33 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists, nearly recording a triple-double. Duncan Robinson added 18 points, while Jalen Duren had 15 before being ejected.
For Charlotte, Brandon Miller scored 24 points, LaMelo Ball added 20, and Kon Knueppel also finished with 20, continuing his strong rookie season. With his three-pointers, Knueppel reached 179 for the season, closing in on Keegan Murray’s rookie record of 206.
With the win, the Pistons (39–13) remain first in the Eastern Conference, just one victory behind the Oklahoma City Thunder (40–13), the defending champions and leaders of the Western Conference.
