Pulisic a doubt for AC Milan's season opener
Christian Pulisic could miss the start of AC Milan's Serie A season after suffering a microfracture and bone bruise in his right leg.
Pulisic sustained the injury during United States' 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 loss to Belgium, being forced off in the second half.
It was his second injury of the tournament, having also missed a group-stage match because of a calf issue.
Neither Milan nor the USA have confirmed how long he is set to be sidelined, but Italian media reports say he could be out for three to six weeks.
That means he could be available for Milan's Serie A opener against Torino on 24 August (AEST), but he will also have missed much of pre-season.
Pulisic has struggled for form in recent months; he netted eight goals and registered four assists in the Italian top flight in 2025-2026 but did not hit the back of the net after the turn of the year.
He has not scored in any of his past 19 league matches for Milan, registering just two assists in that time.
Despite that, new Milan boss Ruben Amorim is looking forward to helping the American get back to top form when he returns.
"Pulisic is a really talented player," Amorim said.
"He is perfect for the way I think about football, especially here in Italy, where sometimes the teams defend so well there is less space between the lines; he is a player who can make the difference in that kind of space.
"I know the strengths of Pulisic. I believe in him, he will be supported in our club.
"I know he had some criticism after the World Cup elimination, but I am here to say we believe a lot in him, have a clear plan to use all the qualities that he has, so I can say to you that Pulisic is really important for us."
Asked where Pulisic would fit into his team, Amorim suggested he would be at his best down the left.
Pulisic is often seen on the right wing for Milan, with Rafael Leao playing on the left, potentially hinting that Amorim will let Portugal international Leao leave in this transfer window.
"I have a clear idea of where I want him [Pulisic] to play," Amorim added.
"Especially with the right foot on the left side, is the perfect position for him; he can play the other side also, inside too and not on the line."
