Mourinho on a mission to transform Real Madrid
Jose Mourinho has officially started work in his second spell at Real Madrid, sayinghe is fully committed to turning its form around.
Mourinho returned to Madrid for his second spell last month, but has only now started work officially ahead of pre-season.
The 63-year-old previously took charge between 2010 and 2013, winning 126 of his 174 games at the helm. He also won one LaLiga title, one Copa del Rey and one Supercopa de Espana in that time.
Madrid has failed to win a domestic trophy in its past two seasons, with Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa all in the dugout throughout that time.
Mourinho is tasked with ending that wait for silverware, as well as uniting a squad which has seemed fractured at times, and he is fully prepared for the task ahead.
"Words are not enough because this feels like a mission," Mourinho said.
"It's not about worrying about myself or whether I'll win a lot or a little. I'm here to help everyone become better: players, staff.
"Creating a culture of work, responsibility, ambition, and something I know well – responsibility and the honour of working for Real Madrid. I really like this concept.
"It's not about working at Real Madrid; it's about working for Real Madrid. And it's with this mission-driven spirit that I am here."
Madrid has already been busy in the transfer market since Mourinho's return, signing Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries.
Mourinho led Benfica through an unbeaten Primeira Liga in 2025-2026, finishing third behind Porto and Sporting CP.
Madrid will open its season against Real Sociedad.
