Mo Toure on target again as Norwich blunts Blades
Socceroos star Mohamed Toure scored his fourth goal in five EFL Championship games as Norwich City got back to winning ways after a midweek defeat, beating Sheffield United 3-1 at Bramall Lane to end the hosts' unbeaten start to the season.
Former Sheffield Wednesday man Anthony Musaba had put Norwich ahead in the eighth minute with a stunning strike into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area before Patrick Bamford equalised with a similarly powerful effort at the other end.
Toure bagged his goal a minute before the break with the scores level at 1-1 after he was slipped through for a one-on-one with Blades goalkeeper Michael Cooper, whom he easily beat to put the Canaries in front at half-time.
Just after the hour, Mathias Kvistgaarden looked to have had his shot stopped on the line by Hamza Choudhury with United's defence in disarray, but technology confirmed the ball had crossed the line, giving Norwich a two-goal cushion that it did not relinquish.
Norwich boss Phillippe Clement labelled the win an important one after seeing his side gain nothing from defeats to against West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City, which he felt were unlucky.
"Both we should have won if you see all the stats of the game and we get zero points out of that," he said of those prior matches.
"It was important to keep our level and raise our level [at Sheffield United].
"What the boys did today against a good opponent, I'm proud about how the team played, how we could keep possession although they were pressing us, how we created chances in an away game and so many chances and good chances - and scored three really good goals."
For Blades boss Chris Wilder, it was a disappointing result and he said Toure's goal in particular damaged his side's hopes of getting anything from the game.
"The three goals that we have conceded, I thought the second goal really changed the flow of the game," he said.
"We didn't get the detail right on the first goal. They are good players, they are a good team, well stocked, competition in every place and they have been building. I always knew it was going to be a tough afternoon.
"I'm disappointed because for the majority of those challenges that we have had against them we have come out on top, but we didn't deserve to come out on top today.
"The second goal, for me, is a real turning point."
Norwich moved above Sheffield United to sit 12th on the table after two wins from its first five matches of the season. United is 15th.
