Millwall sinks Owls to go fourth
Millwall moved up to fourth in the Sky Bet Championship standings as Femi Azeez came off the bench to head the Lions to a hard-earned 1–0 win over a spirited Sheffield Wednesday at The Den.
Wednesday twice hit the woodwork and pushed Max Crocombe into several sharp saves, but Millwall’s pressure finally told on 71 minutes when Alfie Doughty’s cross found Azeez for his fifth goal in six games.
Birmingham City snatched a late point at the Hawthorns as Marvin Ducksch’s glancing 78th-minute header cancelled out Alex Mowatt’s first-half opener for West Bromwich Albion.
The Baggies had the better of the contest before the break and deservedly led through Mowatt’s deflected drive, but Blues surged back after the interval and nearly won it when Kyogo Furuhashi fired over late on.
Albion keeper Josh Griffiths made two sharp saves in stoppage time to preserve the draw, leaving Birmingham ninth and West Brom 17th after a pulsating encounter.
Wrexham scored in each half to see off play-off hopeful Bristol City and make it four straight home league wins.
Nathan Broadhead opened the scoring with a superb early strike, and the host doubled its lead after the break when George Thomason’s corner went in via keeper Radek Vitek. The Red Dragons climbed to 10th and stretch their unbeaten run to seven, while defeat drops City to seventh, just outside the top six.
It's back-to-back victories for Queens Park Rangers as Paul Smyth’s smart second-half header saw them take a 1-0 win away from Blackburn Rovers.
Smyth struck just minutes after coming on, guiding Ilias Chair’s cross into the far corner in the game’s one moment of real precision amid a host of missed chances for both sides.
Also celebrating two consecutive wins is Sheffield United after a 3-0 home triumph over 10-man Portsmouth.
Sydie Peck opened the scoring from the spot after Terry Devlin’s red card for handball, before Patrick Bamford bundled in from a corner for his first Blades goal on his first start for the Club.
Gus Hamer then sealed the points with a stunning long-range strike to take Chris Wilder's side out of the relegation zone and just one point behind its opponent.
