Elversberg stuns Gladbach in seven-goal thriller
Newly-promoted Elversberg netted late for a 4-3 win at Borussia Moenchengladbach as it made it two wins from two in the Bundesliga in a dream start to its maiden top-flight campaign.
First-half goals from Hugo Bolin put Moenchengladbach 2-1 up at half-time with David Mokwa netting for the visitors.
Joe Scally extended the home side's advantage to 3-1 but Maurice Krattenmacher and Felix Keidel scored for Elversberg to level things up, the latter firing home a stunning free-kick with 10 minutes left on the clock.
It got even better for the visitors when Krattenmacher fired the ball into the bottom corner in the 92nd minute to claim all three points for the village that has a population of barely 13,000 people, adding to its upset of Bayer Leverkusen on the opening matchday of the season last weekend.
"We can come back from losing positions at any time. We saw that again today," Krattenmacher said after his heroics.
It wasn't all good news for Elversberg, though, after coach Vincent Wagner was shown a two yellow cards in quick succession a subsequent red before half-time for protesting with the referee at the nature of Gladbach's goal before the break to go 2-1 up, watching on from the stands for the second 45 minutes.
But he would have been more than delighted with what he saw from a distance as his side fought back resolutely to make it six points from an available six, putting it in third on the early league table, level with Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund and above defending champion Bayern Munich, which it will host next up on Monday 14 September (AEST).
