Rhineland rivals can't be separated in cagey draw
Bayer Leverkusen missed the chance to move within a point of fourth-place Stuttgart after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Borussia Monchengladbach.
Philipp Sander's own-goal cancelled out an earlier effort from Yannik Engelhardt, who turned 25 on Saturday, as the spoils were shared at BORUSSIA-PARK.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the 10th minute. Janis Blaswich's poor pass to Aleix Garcia was pounced upon by the hosts, with birthday boy Engelhardt tucking away the rebound after Haris Tabakovic's initial effort was parried.
Leverkusen levelled just before half-time when Garcia's long-range effort beat Gladbach goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas, via a huge deflection in off Sander.
The visitors almost completed the turnaround three minutes into the second half, with Patrik Schick's curling strike clipping the outside of the post.
Jens Castrop was denied from a tight angle and Exequiel Palacios shot straight at Nicolas, but both sides had to settle for a point as they were unable to find the winning goal.
