Donald Trump Attends US Open Final in New York
The US Open final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz was not only about tennis but also drew attention due to the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump, who attended the match at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens.
Rain Doesn’t Dampen the Atmosphere in New York
The day began with overcast skies and light rain, but that didn’t discourage tennis fans. Daniela and Patricia, Brazilian tourists, said they bought raincoats for five dollars as soon as they arrived at the National Tennis Center. Meanwhile, the De la Rosa family traveled from Mexico specifically to witness the final. “We were surprised by the rain, but the court is covered. Outside it doesn’t matter—nothing a tequila can’t fix,” joked Arturo, the father.
Andrea, the mother, admitted she hopes Alcaraz comes out on top: “He’s very charismatic, a great person, and his tennis is incredible.” The showdown between the Spaniard and the Italian will decide who finishes the night as world number one.
Security Tightened Amid Trump’s Presence
Donald Trump, invited by sponsor Rolex, was the focal point of strict security measures. The Secret Service and local police doubled checkpoints, and additional K-9 units were deployed. “You can definitely see more police dogs around,” noted fan Kelly Orihuela.
The president, born in Queens, hadn’t attended the tournament since 2015, when he was booed during a quarterfinal match early in his first presidential campaign. His return sparked controversy, with the group Refuse Fascism organizing protests outside the venue, accusing Trump of promoting violence and white supremacy.
Historic Final on and off the Court
Despite the rain and political tension, tickets reached sky-high resale prices. Seats in section 325 sold for between $700 and $800, while courtside spots went for at least $12,000. Arthur Ashe Stadium, with a capacity of 23,000, was filled to witness a historic clash.
