Roger Federer produced a vintage display as he brushed past a struggling Stan Wawrinka in straight sets to reach the US Open final on Friday.
The 17-time grand slam champion was untroubled by his Swiss countryman, claiming a 6-4 6-3 6-1 victory in their semi-final in New York.
Federer moved into his 27th grand slam final and only Novak Djokovic stands between him and a first major title since Wimbledon 2012.
A five-time champion at Flushing Meadows, the final will be Federer's first since 2009 at the year's final major.
Wawrinka, who beat Federer on his way to the French Open title earlier this year, made too many mistakes, committing 30 unforced errors.
Eager to gain the upper-hand, Wawrinka went for too much too often and it would prove costly as Federer took control from the outset at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
It improved Federer's record against his countryman on hard-courts to an incredible 12-0.
Federer tried a couple of SABRs early in the contest and he broke for 2-1, before coming from 0-40 down to hold for 4-2 later in the first set.
Wawrinka was over-hitting, and he sent another ball long on set point.
From 3-3 in the second set, Federer broke twice to take complete control of the match as Wawrinka struggled to make inroads returning.
After winning 12 return points in the first set, Wawrinka won just eight more for the match - including only two in the second set.
Federer was untroubled from the moment he went 3-1 ahead in the third and he served it out in the seventh game, victory completed with an ace down the tee.
