Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has returned to the top 10 of the ATP world rankings after reaching the final of the Shanghai Masters, while Bernard Tomic is up to a career-high of 18th.

Tsonga was unable to overcome the irrepressible Novak Djokovic on Sunday, the world number one triumphing 6-2 6-4 to secure a ninth title of 2015.

Nevertheless, Tsonga has climbed five places in the rankings and the Frenchman is also up to ninth in the Race to London as he bids to secure one of the two remaining places in the eight-man field for next month's ATP World Tour Finals.

"I'm number nine in the race," Tsonga said. "For me what is important is to play good tennis. I'm really happy with the week I had.

"Of course, I wanted to do better against Novak. But I'm really happy about this week. It gives me energy to continue to fight for the [World Tour Finals]."

Tomic, meanwhile, has moved up two places to 18th after making the last eight in Shanghai.

The Australian also fell victim to Djokovic, who holds a lead of 8,035 over world number two Andy Murray at the top of the rankings.
