Luis Enrique’s Message Directed at Chelsea: “They Should Fear Us”
Following the Champions League draw, PSG boss Luis Enrique dismissed talk of "revenge" against Chelsea, instead warning the Blues that facing the reigning champions is a "problem" no team wants.
Luis Enrique sent a strong message to the rest of Europe following the Champions League knockout draw: Paris Saint-Germain fear no one and are ready to defend their crown. The Spanish manager stated that, unlike last season, everyone now recognizes PSG as a genuine contender for the title.
The Parisian side will first face Chelsea in the Round of 16, a team that recently defeated them in the Club World Cup final. If they advance, they could meet the winner between Galatasaray and Liverpool, with potential clashes against European giants such as Real Madrid, Manchester City, or Bayern Munich waiting in the later rounds. Despite the daunting path, Luis Enrique insisted that the “fear factor” has shifted — and now it is other teams who should be worried.
The coach highlighted his squad’s mental and tactical growth throughout the season. He emphasized PSG’s ability to overcome adversity and adapt to different challenges, which gives him optimism heading into the decisive stage of the competition. He also noted that, statistically, the team has improved in several areas compared to last season.
Regarding the upcoming tie against Chelsea, Luis Enrique dismissed any revenge narrative, stressing that it is a different competition. For him, the focus remains firmly on the present and maintaining a champion’s mentality.
He concluded with a bold statement that sums up PSG’s mindset: they are not trapped in the “group of death” — instead, Europe’s elite are trapped in a bracket with the reigning champions.
