Barcelona Dreams of Hosting the 2029 Champions League Final at Spotify Camp Nou
Barcelona pushes to host the 2029 Champions League final at the revamped Spotify Camp Nou
FC Barcelona has officially taken its first step toward hosting the 2029 UEFA Champions League final, submitting initial documentation to UEFA alongside the Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia. The bid proposes Barcelona as the host city and the Spotify Camp Nou as the venue for European football’s biggest club match.
In an official statement released Tuesday, the club confirmed its intention to enter the early phase of the bidding process, stressing that the proposal is still subject to UEFA approval and stadium homologation.
The documentation submitted allows UEFA to begin evaluating the viability and suitability of Barcelona’s candidacy under its established protocols. The final and complete bid dossier is expected to be delivered in June 2026, when the process formally advances to its decisive stage.
Before the club’s announcement, Barcelona’s city government approved the bid and signed the Host City Agreement, signaling its full commitment to staging the Champions League final. The Government of Catalonia has also thrown its support behind the proposal, describing Barcelona’s bid as “the strongest possible option” for 2029.
UEFA previously confirmed that it had received 15 expressions of interest from different federations to host its club competition finals in 2028 and 2029, with the Spotify Camp Nou officially in the running for the men’s Champions League final.
The final decision will be made by UEFA’s Executive Committee in September 2026, with Barcelona set to compete directly against Wembley Stadium in London.
Beyond the Champions League, the renovated Camp Nou—located in the Les Corts district and scheduled to be completed before 2029—is also among the stadiums being considered by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) as a potential venue for the 2030 World Cup final, which will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
