LIVE! Samsunspor vs. Fenerbahçe in the Süper Lig on beIN SPORTS

  • Matchday 3 of the 2026-27 Süper Lig brings us a game that could prove much more difficult than it might seem for one of the title contenders.

Fenerbahçe visit the Samsun Yeni 19 Mayıs Stadyumu to face a Samsunspor side that has started the season unbeaten and wants to prove once again that it can compete against the giants of Turkish soccer.

The hosts enter the match with four points from their opening two games, while Fenerbahçe have three. The Istanbul side also arrives in Samsun following an emotional week in Europe, where they secured an important 2-1 away victory over Olympique Lyonnais to book their place in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League.

Samsunspor Look to Make Home Advantage Count

Samsunspor have made an encouraging start to the season. The Red and Whites opened their campaign with a spectacular 3-3 draw against Göztepe before claiming their first victory of the season with a 2-0 win away at Çaykur Rizespor. Those results leave them with four points heading into Matchday 3 and still unbeaten.

Their performances over the past few months also suggest that the team from Samsun should be taken very seriously. They have won six of their last eight matches in the Süper Lig, a significant improvement compared to their form during the previous stretch of the competition.

One of the players to watch will be Saikouba Jarju. The 18-year-old provided two assists against Çaykur Rizespor and became, since Opta began collecting detailed records of the competition, the youngest player to provide at least two assists in a single Süper Lig match.

Samsunspor also have another statistic that could concern their opponents: they have won five of their last eight home matches against clubs from Istanbul, including victories in the two most recent ones.

Fenerbahçe Arrive on a High After Champions League Success

Fenerbahçe, meanwhile, arrive full of confidence after achieving one of their main objectives at the start of the season.

The team coached by İsmail Kartal defeated Olympique Lyonnais 2-1 in France and secured their return to the UEFA Champions League after an 18-year absence. Now they need to carry that momentum into the domestic competition, where their start has been much more inconsistent.

Fenerbahçe suffered a 2-1 defeat against Gençlerbirliği in their league opener but immediately responded with a 4-2 victory over Konyaspor. As a result, they travel to Samsun with three points from their opening two matches.

One of the standout performers in that victory was Mason Greenwood, who recorded two goals and an assist. According to Opta data published by beIN SPORTS Türkiye, no foreign player had been directly involved in more goals on his first league start for Fenerbahçe since detailed records began.

Marco Asensio will also be a player to watch closely. Since last season, the Spaniard is the only player in the competition to have reached double figures in both goals and assists, recording 12 in each category during that period.

An Opponent That Has Caused Problems for Fenerbahçe

Although Fenerbahçe enter the match with a squad packed with talent, recent history suggests that nothing should be taken for granted.

Samsunspor have won just one of their last 13 Süper Lig meetings with Fenerbahçe, but draws have been frequent: seven draws and five defeats during that period. Their only victory came in February 2012, when they won 3-1.

The most recent meeting ended with a 3-2 victory for Fenerbahçe in March 2026. However, the Istanbul giants have not beaten Samsunspor in consecutive league meetings since the Christoph Daum era between 2005 and 2006.

Fenerbahçe also lost their only away match of the season against Gençlerbirliği. Another defeat would see them lose their opening two away games of a campaign for the first time since 2018-19.

Everything is ready in Samsun. The hosts want to protect their unbeaten start and deliver one of the first major upsets of the season, while Fenerbahçe will look to confirm their resurgence and carry their European momentum directly into the Süper Lig.
