Arda Turan's Outrage Leads to Red Card in His Süper Lig Debut
Newly promoted Eyüpspor faced Alanyaspor in their first match of the 2024 Süper Lig. Despite securing a valuable draw, Arda Turan was sent off following a dispute with the referee.
Turan, who was managing his first Süper Lig match, received a direct red card in the 77th minute after protesting a refereeing decision. Despite being expelled, the former Turkish player continued to argue with the referee, an incident that will mark the start of the season for the newly promoted Eyüpspor.
In their Süper Lig debut, Turan’s team managed a 1-1 draw against Alanyaspor, with a goal from Samu Saiz and a late goal from Sergio Córdova. This result places Eyüpspor temporarily in sixth position in the Turkish league.
Turan had been praised for leading Eyüpspor to Turkey’s top division, a remarkable achievement for the coach who is taking his first steps as a manager.
