LIVE: Sporting CP vs Moreirense | Liga Portugal
Sporting CP will look to make home advantage count as they chase three points against Moreirense in Matchday 11 of the 2026/27 Liga Portugal season. The match will feature a major storyline: Paulo Fonseca's debut as head coach of the Lions, who need to stay in contention for the league title.
SPORTING CP BEGIN A NEW ERA UNDER PAULO FONSECA
The Lisbon side head into the match on a three-game winning streak across all competitions and sit third in the standings with 21 points, having recorded six wins, three draws, and one defeat in their first 10 league matches. Sporting have also scored 23 goals and conceded 11.
The biggest development will be the debut of Paulo Fonseca, who took charge following the departure of Rui Borges. The Portuguese manager will be tasked with restoring the team's status as a leading force and closing the nine-point gap to league leaders Porto.
However, Sporting will be without Nuno Santos and Zeno Debast, both sidelined through injury. Colombian striker Luis Suárez, along with Geny Catamo and Rodrigo Zalazar, is expected to play a key role in the team's attacking plans.
MOREIRENSE AIM TO CAUSE AN UPSET IN LISBON
Meanwhile, Moreirense arrive at the Estádio José Alvalade full of confidence after recording back-to-back league victories against Estoril Praia (3-1) and Estrela Amadora (2-1).
Vasco Botelho da Costa's side sit ninth in the standings with 14 points and will look to take advantage of their opponents' managerial transition to secure an important away result.
However, recent history presents a major challenge: Sporting have won seven of their last eight league meetings against Moreirense. Furthermore, the three most recent encounters all ended in victories for the Lisbon side, with exactly three goals scored in each match.
The game takes place this Saturday, November 7, at the Estádio José Alvalade, with Sporting eager to deliver in front of their home fans and Moreirense determined to make life difficult for the hosts at the start of Fonseca's tenure.
