Vitor Pereira says Wolves "are trying everything to improve" as they look to earn their first win of the Premier League season against Burnley at Molineux on Sunday.

Wolves are the only winless side in the top-flight after eight matches and suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sunderland last time out after back-to-back draws against Tottenham and Brighton in which they gave up leads in both matches.

Pereira's side are rooted to the bottom of the table with two points, five clear of safety, with Burnley currently occupying 17th place.

But Pereira is confident his side will put up the fight needed in order to clinch those elusive three points.

"We must go and take from life, go and take from the game. What we need in this moment is to show this hunger since the first minute," he said.

"I have my responsibility, and we all – the players, everybody in the club – know our responsibility. I don't believe that it's possible to be champion in October. It's impossible.

"And it's impossible to be relegated in October. But we know that each game is a chance to take the chance and get the points or not.

"They want to change things, they fight, they compete, they are trying everything to improve as a team and to turn over the situation. I want to see the same team that I see in training this week. I want to see the same team with personality, quality and ambition to go there and play to win the game."

Burnley, meanwhile, earned a 2-0 win over Leeds United last weekend, their second victory since their promotion.

They also beat Sunderland at the end of August, with both of their wins coming at Turf Moor, something Scott Parker is keen to change.

However, Parker has lost all three of his Premier League matches against Wolves, losing each one by a 1-0 scoreline (one in May 2019, both games in 2020-21).

Despite that, he acknowledged just how important it was to overcome the hurdle of earning their first away win of the campaign.

"Winning away from home is tough," he said. "For sure, it will be an extra driver for us.

"We are in a good place, have had good results and now need to try to get our first away result – that will be key for us."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Wolves – Tulo Arokodare

Wolves have struggled for goals this season, netting just four in their eight matches so far, though Tolu Arokodare provided a threat as they attempted their comeback against Sunderland.

Despite coming on in the 77th minute, Arokodare had more shots than any other Wolves player (three) and the joint-second-most touches in the box (four). This was despite having just eight touches in his cameo, fewer than every other player on his team.

Burnley – Lesley Ugochukwu

Lesley Ugochukwu has netted in each of his last two Premier League appearances, having only scored once in his first 43 games in the competition.

Interestingly, with his goal on matchday eight, he was the first player with the initials LU to score against Leeds United in the Premier League.

MATCH PREDICTION: WOLVES WIN

Wolves are the only team without a Premier League win this season (D2 L6) and, for a second consecutive season, have won none of their first eight games.

They also failed to win their ninth match of 2024-25, with Bury in 1904-05/1905-06 and Sunderland in 2015-16/2016-17 the only sides to do this in back-to-back top-flight seasons.

Wolves have won just one of their last nine Premier League games against Burnley (D4 L4), a 1-0 win in their last home meeting in December 2023.

However, Pereira's side are expected to get their first win of the campaign on Sunday, with Burnley's only wins this season coming against their fellow promoted clubs.

The Clarets have won just two of their last 44 top-flight games against non-newly promoted sides (D10 L32) and won none of their last 14 (D5 L9).

But a winless start is not the only streak that Wolves need to overcome. They have gone 25 Premier League matches without a victory in the months of May, August, September and October combined (D6 L19). Across their last two seasons, they are winless in all 21 games played in those months (D5 L16).
