Bruno Fernandes Makes History With Manchester United And Surpasses David Beckham
The Portuguese captain delivered a decisive performance against Crystal Palace and broke a historic record, moving past David Beckham in the Manchester United history books.
It was a special night at Old Trafford for Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder led Manchester United to a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Crystal Palace in a crucial Premier League clash that not only secured three vital points but also cemented his place in club history.
The evening started in frustrating fashion for the Red Devils, as Maxence Lacroix put the visitors ahead and briefly silenced the home crowd. However, the response from United was swift — and it revolved around their captain.
A Comeback Led By The Captain
The turning point arrived in the second half when Matheus Cunha was brought down inside the box by Lacroix, resulting in a red card for the defender. From the penalty spot, Bruno Fernandes calmly slotted home the equalizer, showcasing the composure that has defined his time in Manchester.

Moments later, he shifted into creator mode. A perfectly weighted through ball found Benjamin Sesko, who finished clinically to complete the 2-1 turnaround. The victory lifted United to third place in the table, closing the gap on leaders Arsenal and second-placed Manchester City.
Moving Past A Club Icon
While the goal was important, it was Fernandes’ assist that marked a historic milestone. With that contribution, Bruno Fernandes reached 18 different Premier League matches in which he has recorded both a goal and an assist for Manchester United, surpassing the 17 achieved by David Beckham.
Only Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs now stand ahead of him in that category. Fernandes also became the first United player since Antonio Valencia (2011-12) to reach 13 assists in a single Premier League season.
The achievement goes even further. With his latest performance, the captain joined an elite club of players who have surpassed 100 goals and 100 assists for Manchester United, alongside legends Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney.
Since arriving from Sporting in 2020, Fernandes has become the creative heartbeat of the side, now managed by Michael Carrick. His leadership, vision, and ability to decide matches in key moments have firmly established him as one of the defining figures of modern Manchester United.
