Arsenal begins its Premier League title defense

Arsenal's ambition has also been reflected in the summer transfer market, with the London club spending close to £230 million to strengthen a squad expected to compete for the biggest trophies once again.

The latest arrival is Ezri Konsa. The 28-year-old England international center back joined from Aston Villa for £50 million (€58 million).

Konsa joins a group of summer additions that includes Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis and Piero Hincapié, whose loan move was made permanent.

The defender made 286 appearances across seven seasons with Aston Villa, helping the club qualify for the Champions League twice and win the Europa League last season.

Arsenal also enters the new campaign with momentum after an emphatic 3-0 Community Shield victory.


Frank Lampard brings Coventry City back to the Premier League

Standing in Arsenal's way is a Coventry City side returning to the top flight after dominating the Championship.

Frank Lampard's team won the division by an impressive 11 points over Ipswich, finishing with both the best attack and best defensive record.

The Sky Blues scored 97 goals while conceding 45, completing a dominant campaign that earned them promotion to the Premier League.

Coventry has strengthened its squad ahead of the step up.

Gustavo Hamer returns for a second spell after three seasons with Sheffield United, while Frank Onyeka has joined permanently from Brentford following his loan spell last season.

Loum Tchaouna, Aurele Amenda, Caleb Yirenkyi and goalkeeper Carl Rushworth have also joined the squad.
