VIDEO | This Footballer Was Dead For Three Minutes And Now Survives Thanks To This Device
Football has witnessed several tragedies where players lost their lives due to cardiac issues, such as the cases of Spanish player Antonio Puerta and Cameroonian Marc Vivien Foe.
Fortunately, medicine has advanced, providing many players with a second chance, as seen in the case of 29-year-old defender Tom Lockey from Luton Town. He suffered a cardiac complication in December during a match against Bournemouth.
In Lockey's own words, the footballer was "dead" for three minutes as his heart stopped beating. However, a defibrillator implanted in his chest gave the Welshman a second lease on life.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the Cardiff City player described the device as a "battle wound" and explained how the defibrillator constantly monitors his heart rhythm.
While Lockyer is not yet considering a return to the pitch, he doesn't rule it out. At least he can continue with his daily life, thanks to this medical advancement.
