Lionel Messi to Face His Childhood Club
Inter Miami will close its preseason with an unprecedented match between Lionel Messi and the club of his heart, Newell’s Old Boys, this Thursday, February 15th. Undoubtedly, a special clash for the Argentine, as it is where his formative stage began.
It is no secret that the number "10" is a fan of the Rosario team with which he signed at the end of March 1994 at just six years old. It is worth remembering that his first match in this stage was played against Pablo VI, a match where he scored four of the six goals scored.
He wore the colors of "La Lepra" until 1999, where he managed to score up to 234 goals in 176 games, before moving on to join FC Barcelona in 2000 when he arrived in Spain, and the rest is history.
This match will also be important for Luis Suárez, who will play for the first time at DRV PNK Stadium with the team that will debut in Major League Soccer (MLS) next Wednesday against Real Salt Lake.
Gerardo Martino, also with a past at Newell’s Old Boys, has revealed that Messi has no injury and will be part of the squad that will play the last friendly of the long tour they were subjected to, although Sergio Busquets will not be available.
Messi's team and company will seek their second victory within the seven matches they played, in an emotional duel for both their star and their coach, looking forward to what they can achieve already in a full season.
