Will PSG Win Ligue 1 Again?
After winning a fifth consecutive French title and retaining the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain begin 2026-27 as clear favorites in France — with Luis Enrique trying to extend one of the most dominant periods in the club’s history.
For the rest of Ligue 1, the challenge is familiar: finding a way to stop Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG enter the 2026-27 season looking for a sixth consecutive league title after being crowned French champions for the 14th time in May. Luis Enrique’s team secured the championship with one match remaining, finishing a campaign in which they had the league’s best attack and recorded 18 clean sheets.
Domestic dominance is only part of the story. PSG also retained the Champions League last season, defeating Arsenal on penalties in the final in Budapest to become European champions for the second consecutive year.
The new season has already produced another trophy. Goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué gave PSG a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup on August 12.
A Champion That Keeps Adding Talent

One of the strongest arguments for another PSG title is that the squad remains loaded with elite-level players.
Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Désiré Doué, Vitinha, João Neves, Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes remain part of a team that has already proven capable of winning both domestically and in Europe.
And Paris have added more options.
Spanish forward Ferran Torres joined from Barcelona and signed until 2031, while Lucas Digne returned to the club on a contract through 2029.
Continuity is equally important. Luis Enrique remains in charge of a project that has won nine trophies across the last two seasons. Before the UEFA Super Cup, the Spanish coach made clear that maintaining the squad’s hunger after so much success remains one of his priorities.
Is There Any Reason to Doubt PSG?

There are challengers. Lens finished second last season and have already shown their ability to trouble Paris by beating PSG 1-0 in the Trophée des Champions on August 16.
That defeat also served as an early reminder that PSG are not unbeatable.
Over 34 league matches, however, the equation is different. Paris possess exceptional depth, continuity under Luis Enrique and a squad accustomed to competing for every major trophy.
Their Champions League commitments could create opportunities for rivals, particularly during demanding periods of the season. But until another French club proves capable of matching their consistency, PSG remain the team everyone has to beat.
A sixth consecutive Ligue 1 title is not guaranteed. As the 2026-27 season begins, though, it remains the most likely outcome.
